The Blue and The Gray

Ok, so I realize that there is plenty of warm weather left but I think mentally I’ve already started making my transition to a “fall” state of mind.  I am finding myself more and more likely to choose muted tones now but with a couple of pops of color mixed in.  It’s a good way to ease the transition to fall but not entirely lose all the great summer time color.

For this work ensemble, I decided to pair one of my favorite sheath dresses in a classic gray with my recently purchased “blue suede shoes” and my fave hot pink purse.  The black and blue color trend is hot for fall so why not try a softer version with some gray?

Casual Saturday OOTD

Yep, I am completely relaxing today.  That’s right….  I have absolutely nothing to do.  And it feels GREAT.  Believe it or not, I didn’t even make my usual Target run today!  So, while I know the folks down there are likely very disappointed and probably ready to place my photo on the back of one of their milk cartons…  there’s no need to panic just yet….  I’m feeling ok…  I just decided to enjoy the day and get some much needed chill time in.  So, here’s to a casual Saturday.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!!

Riding High

Ok, so let’s just get all of the cards out on the table…  I have a problem. I like to buy things. Lots of things. Anything. And if you’ve been reading my blog for any period of time (let’s say… ummm…  one post), you already know this.  So I’m not sure why I’ve been holding out on the fact that I bought an awesome pair of riding boots a few weeks back!

Yep, remember my Rue La La post?  Well, that’s when I got them.  The Kelsi Dagger Jayna.  I just love the two tone exterior and there is a… shall we say rugged “chic”ness about them.  Totally waiting on my first opportunity to wear these this season!

Now, since the cat is out of the bag, I might as well share the rest of my inventory of riding boots… That’s right — a girl can never have too many riding boots!!

Featured Boots: Vince Camuto (top), Etienne Aigner (right) and Colin Stuart (left)

Anyway, I’m so glad to see their debut for this fall.  It’s such an easy way to be fab but without the typical shoe drama (*read discomfort*)!  Comfortable and chic?  Sign me up baby.  I mean it’s sheer genius.  And they are completely versatile. Great with jeans, skirts and maxi dresses. Adding a great riding boot can completely change the dynamic of an ensemble.

What do you pair your boots with?

Bad Case of the Blues

Alright, so when I walked into Nordstrom Rack yesterday, I had the full intention of buying ONE pair of great shoes.  I was simply looking for one great pair of blue themed heels to pair with my cobalt blue skinny jeans.  That’s right – just one pair.  That’s it.  Easy right?   I repeated that to myself numerous times on the drive over and as I walked into the store… (one pair, one pair, one pair)… yet despite my constant affirmations (*spoiler alert*), I found myself walking out of the store with THREE pair of shoes!!

Anyway, one thing is clear….  jewel tones are very hot right now – in particular shades of blue.   So, of course, this trend has been added to my  latest obsession list.

My picks from The Rack: Enzo Angiolini Color Block Open Toe Sandals (Blue, Teal and Lavender), Nine West Blue Suede Pumps, Steve Madden Color Block Open Toe Sandals (Purple, Teal and White)

I simply love these shoes and this trend.  Last night, I settled on pairing the Enzo’s with my jeans but I honestly could have done any one of them.  It was a great night out — movies and dinner with the girls (and Sparkle is a must see by the way!!).

Blazer and Skinny Jeans… Restyled

Ok, so I am taking a couple of featured items from my prior blogs and restyling them.  It’s really just a chance for me to play around with my blazer more (woo-hoo) and try a couple of different things too….  so… umm… bare with me.

Alright, if you remember the animal print post, you probably remember my J. Crew yellow skinny jeans.  I really love these jeans — A LOT .  First of all, they are completely perfect for fall.  But more importantly, I absolutely ADORE the fit (which isn’t always easy for me).  The ankle length is spot on and makes the jean completely versatile – sandals, pumps, ankle, mid and knee boots.  Add the fact that these jeans feel good on (they may be the most comfortable jeans I have ever owned)!  And top that off with that mild “mustard” color (slightly tamer than a pure yellow) and you’ve got a a great transition item for the upcoming autumn season.Oh…  and my doggies are making a guest appearance in today’s blog (I just added the flower photo because it was so cool)!!!

Kenya L Designs Blazer – 2nd Sample – Complete!

Yep, that’s right, my second set of blazer samples are officially done!!  There is still a lot to do but I feel good about my progress to date….  and I think I’m pretty close to making my first set available for sale.  I made some tweaks to my first jacket sample (see below) and played around with different fabric choices and patterns this time too.  I think I have a pretty solid set that I’d like to make available for my initial “launch” of online sales.  I’m definitely taking baby steps with this process but even with the baby steps….  I must admit that it’s still a bit scary.  There is this uncertainty that always kind of sits there with me….  but I suppose that is normal, in particular for  me, as I am a well known worry wart!!

(And yes, I know my eyes are closed on this photo but I still love it — goofy= me)

Anyway, even with my constant need to worry….  this process over the past few months has been so much fun….  and enlightening.   I’ve discovered a lot about myself….  or maybe rediscovered.  It’s like I am figuring things out about myself — things that I have always known but that had been – I don’t know – buried inside.  I think we sometimes get so caught up in the grind of everyday life – that 9-5 – that we sometimes, somehow, lose ourselves and forget what we really love and are passionate about.  So, I think that’s what I’ve enjoyed the most over the past months….  just remembering those things about myself.  I’ve gotten so lost in THIS process… but in a good way.  It’s like a whole new world for me and I’m really excited about what is to come.

My J. Crew Fall/Winter 2012 Look Book Faves

Ok, so it’s no secret that I adore J. Crew.  I mean, if you haven’t noticed…  practically every outfit that I’ve featured to date has some J. Crew component to it!  I just love their looks….  So, of course, I was super excited to receive their 2012 Look Book featuring their Fall Collection presented at New York Fashion Week.  And no surprise…  I had no trouble finding my favorite picks!  One thing is for sure, print mixing will definitely continue to be on trend this fall.  Now, I’m not sure if I’m ready to go “all in” yet but these looks have certainly inspired me to “dabble” a little bit more.

Now, the hard part…. I honestly can’t decide which of these is my absolute favorite.  I love them all!  Very chic!  I love the contrast of the stripes and the contrast of the fabric on this first look!  Fab!  And of course I love a great jacket — it can really make the difference when putting an ensemble together.  And this color is killer!  It just adds a great edge to the look.Mixing prints is never easy and certainly has to be done the right way to make it work but wow, these looks pull it off!  What do you think?
